ABCD Bike Checks zine

A guide to pre-ride safety checks, located along a cycle ride – a different location for each check. Use this zine and it’s DIY counterpart to:

  • Learn some basic safety checks
  • Give you an excuse to go out for a ride
  • Entertain the kids
  • Entertain yourself with a craft project
  • Guide others around some interesting locations in the place where you live
  • Give your cycling group something social to work on together whilst things are disrupted by the pandemic

We’ve made one for Lancaster UK, starting at the railway station and based on a route of about 3-5 miles. There’s also a DIY version with blank spaces for you to design your own route for a different place.

Instructions
  1. Download the relevant print file.
  2. Print at actual size (100% scale) on A4 paper, double sided. Sheet 2 on the back of sheet 1, sheet 4 on the back of sheet 3, sheet 6 on the back of sheet 5. How you tackle this depends on the printer you’re using: if it prints double-sided then it’s easy, if not, you might have to print it in stages, reversing the paper manually.
  3. Cut each sheet in half across the width, so you now have A5 sheets.
  4. Fold each sheet in two so you have A6 pages.
  5. Assemble the pages in order (this is the tricky bit! Use the screen version for reference) and staple, sew or clip the pages together.
  6. Et voilà! Share it with your friends, go for a bike ride and learn/teach some things!
